Archaeology and Museum Athena
Gather round, Indiana Jones fans! Passing by Capannori you must visit the Museum Athena: of its three sections, two are devoted to the territory and the farming communities that animated the land of the river Auser, with exhibits from prehistory to the Middle Ages.
Of great interest is the section dedicated to Carlo Piaggia, born in the hamlet of Badia di Cantignano, who was one the many European explorers of the nineteenth century to visit and document the African continent.
Another element not to be missed is the so called “wooden building of Frizzone”, a find of more than 2200 years old, perfectly intact and preserved after a nine year restoration work.
