The complex of Monte Pisano is a small treasure between Lucca and Pisa, where nature and history mix together for a slow paced tourism.

A unitary complex of great historical and environmental value covering parts of the municipalities of Capannori, Lucca, Buti, Vicopisano, Calci, San Giuliano Terme and Vecchiano.

The landscape of Monte Pisano alternates terraced olive groves, hills, woods and mountains with caves and water springs, and on its sides there are many charming boroughs, medieval towers, and  romanesque parish churches.

A well defined territory, whose beauty has been shaped by man over the centuries, and whose slow rhythms are dictated by agricultural activitues. All this makes the Monte Pisano the right destination for a slow tourism, embracing history and culture.

The whole territory is crossed by a thick network of trekking paths going through the protected natural areas, allowing for a simple and relaxing walk through olive groves and woods of chestnut trees or a more challenging hikes that will reward you with a breathtaking view.

It is worth mentioning that there are also routes to be explored by bike or on a horse, speloelogical activities and rock climbing.

The area of Monte Pisano is also rich with springs of therapeutic water, known since many centuries ago. Acquedotto Mediceo, Acquedotto Nottolini, the spas of San Giuliano and Uliveto are all good examples of how the springs have been used since the past for the benificial effects.

The territory has many tourist attractions: from the historical spas 'Bagni di Pisa' and the 25,000 theatre costumes collection in San Giuliano Terme to the Museum of Natural and Local History in the beautiful Certosa di Calci, from the medieval villages of Vicopisano and Buti, to the natural areas, churches and villas from the seventeenth and eighteenth century, but also the Village of the Camellias and the Camelietum, or the monumental aqueduct, and even the many cultural events across the territory all along the year. And again local handicraft products, olive oil, excellent food and wine. And these are hust a small selection of what the area has to offer.

The Monte Pisano area, between Lucca and Pisa, offers 8400 beds in 489 structures. These numbers prove the possibility to host many visitors, such as those interested in the more than 50 trekking and hiking paths for a total length of around 300 km.
