Living nativity of Ruota

Every 26 December the hamlet of Ruota turns into a small Bethlehem, greeting citizens and visitors in its narrow streets to give everyone the opportunity to live for a day in a medieval village.

St.Stepehen's Day is the middle point of Christmas holidays and in Capannori it means that you can admire a living nativity scene: perfomers and visitors blend in the streets of Ruota where artisan workshops from the past are set up, and in the crowd it is not impossible to spot Mary and Joseph.

The main representation of the day is held in the early evening: the actors reach the central square of Ruota and start the representation of the nativity in the evocative atmosphere of torch light.

The sacred representation is accompanied by music and activities for children and young people, including a Christmas concert by local artists. Quite obviously, it is possible to visit the artisan workshops and buy local produce from medieval merchants!

A shuttle service linking Frantoio sociale and the church in Colle di Compito with Ruota is available from 13.00. Entrance for the living nativity, including the shuttle service, is 5.00 €, 2.00 € for children between 6 and 10.
