Pilgrim’s Labyrinth on the Via Francigena

The Pilgrim’s Labyrinth: A Journey into the Soul of the Via Francigena

The Pilgrim’s Labyrinth:
In the heart of Capannori, where history and spirituality intertwine along the path of the Via Francigena, a unique work of art came to life on July 6, 2018: the Pilgrim’s Labyrinth. This place is not merely a passing destination, but a symbol of an inner and collective journey, where every step invites reflection, and every turn reveals discovery.

Spanning approximately 400 square meters, the labyrinth follows the iconic design of the pilgrim’s shell, the Scallop. A millenary symbol rooted in the trails of Santiago, which over time has become the distinctive mark of those who walk the ancient spiritual routes in search of themselves and others.

Funded by the Tuscany Region with a contribution of €50,000, this work is much more than a simple installation: it is an invitation to pause, breathe, and let yourself be guided by the road and your heart. The labyrinth is not an obstacle to overcome but a path to be experienced, where every step brings you closer to the most authentic dimension of the journey.

Enhancing this extraordinary project is a sculpture by artist Stefano Pierotti, created at the historic Villa Reale of Marlia. The raw material is a centuries-old plane tree trunk, felled by the violent storm of March 2015. Thanks to the generosity of the Villa’s owners, the tree is reborn in a new form to convey a powerful and universal message:

“Whatever the destination of your journey, do not seek new lands but new hands to hold, to find and rediscover each other.”

The Pilgrim’s Labyrinth is not just a place to visit, but an experience to live. Capannori awaits you to discover the magic of the journey, marked by history, nature, and encounter.
