What to know

In Sant’Andrea di Compito, inside the Chiusa Borrini, there is an experimental Tea Camellia plantation, started in the 1980s from seeds of Camellia sinensis plants cultivated at the Lucca Botanical Garden.

The experimental plantation (approximately 1,000 sq.m.) is located on the slopes of Monte Pisano, beside a valley crossed by a stream, in a shady area with high atmospheric humidity.

Today, it can be confidently said that the Tea Camellia thrives excellently in this environment.

Trials have also been conducted for the production and preparation of tea from these plants: the evaluation by world-renowned Japanese tasters from the most important production centers was overwhelmingly positive.
