The paths of the hills and wine roads

Discover the Flavors of Capannori
When time is short, choosing what to do can be tricky—but now you can combine pleasure and discovery thanks to the “Wine and Olive Oil Route of Lucca, Montecarlo, and Versilia.”
This food and wine itinerary begins at the foot of the Pizzorne hills and takes you through the Lucca plain to the charming village of Matraia. Along the way, you’ll uncover tiny Romanesque churches, hidden corners of nature, and hilltop villages painted in stunning colors. All this, accompanied by tastings of excellent local wines—a perfect day of mens sana in corpore sano… or almost!
Capannori is one of the key areas along the “Wine and Olive Oil Route of Lucca, Montecarlo, and Versilia,” a tourist and gastronomic trail that winds through the Lucca hills, Montecarlo, Versilia, and the Serchio Valley.
The aim of the Wine and Olive Oil Route is to promote the region’s typical products, starting with its DOC wines and DOP olive oils, as well as the unique landscapes that enchant visitors from all over the world.
In the section that crosses Capannori, the route runs northward along a road with sweeping views of the Pizzorne Plateau and southward along the slopes of Monte Pisano.
In addition to enjoying panoramic vistas of vineyards, olive groves, woodlands, and lush countryside, visitors can stop at local farms and agriturismos that produce high-quality wine and olive oil and offer guided tastings. There are also plenty of accommodation options, including bed & breakfasts and farmhouse stays.
This itinerary also offers cultural richness: along the way you’ll find medieval chapels and majestic avenues leading to grand historic villas.
