Tempi Moderni Returns to Capannori’s Historic Courtyards
Fifth Edition – July 2025

Returning this July for its fifth edition, Tempi Moderni is a unique performance series created especially for the historic courtyards of Capannori — identity-rich places deeply tied to local heritage. Conceived by Roberto Castello in collaboration with and supported by the Municipality of Capannori, the festival offers an opportunity to rediscover the joy of community through original works of popular art theatre.

Each evening at 9:00 PM, high-quality contemporary theatre performances will enliven the courtyards, bringing joy and entertainment to audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

Tempi Moderni is a modern reinterpretation of the “Carro di Tespi” — not a showcase of pre-existing plays meant for conventional theatres, but rather small-scale productions created specifically for this setting. The goal is to offer works that are engaging and enjoyable for everyone, from the youngest children to the elderly, regardless of educational background.

Initially conceived as a response to the social challenges of the pandemic, the project has evolved into a valuable moment of reflection and a practical laboratory on the nature of popular art theatre. Over time, it has become a staple of Capannori’s summer events calendar and a meaningful opportunity for artists—now and in the future—interested in exploring theatre outside traditional urban and metropolitan venues.
